Sixth Grader Alexa Therese Chua gave the Negros Island Region (Region XVIII) its first taste of victory when she topped the Individual Writing Contest and was recognized as Best Editorial Writer in Filipino category during the 2017 National Schools Press Conference with the theme Strengthening Freedom of Information through Campus Journalism held at Pagadian City, Zamboanga Peninsula, January 22-25.
As Editor–in-Chief of Luntiang Tanglaw and Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) Champion, Chua made history as one of the first NIR champs and Bacolod City’s only First Placer during this year’s national individual writing competition.
Joining Chua were two other young Lasallians who also made it in Radio Broadcasting and Script Writing- English Paul Gabrielle Coral (6A) and Leon Antonio Besar (5A) by winning two special awards namely Sixth Place in Technical Application and Seventh Place Best Anchor respectively, which led their team to capture the Overall Fourth Placer in Radio Production in English, Grade School Category.
Completing the La Salle Team of campus writers were Lanz Gaebriel Diong (6A) and Lance Nicoudemus Tionko (10A) as National Qualifiers in Science and Technology Writing and Copyreading and Headline Writing in English.
The winning campus writers were trained and accompanied by their respective advisers namely Sheila Ticao, Analie Palomero and Rhazel Mengullo.
NSPC is an annual journalistic competition sponsored by Department of Education and participated by public and private schools’ cream of the crop writers coming from the 18 Regions all over the Philippines.
