The theme adopted by the University Student Government (USG) for Academic Year 2010-2011 is I am a Lasallian Hero. It is a declaration of the Lasallian commitment to social action and transformation. With the current issues challenging our community, the USG strengthens its resources, both internal and external, to achieve a common goal of empowered and responsive Lasallians. The theme directs all Lasallians to take an active participation through student empowerment and development. This requires an extensive collaboration of stakeholders through proper information dissemination and active participation.
Our being a Lasallian is not just a name or a title, but it is a call for service and responsibility. Our theme for this school year centers on being and becoming “Lasallian Heroes”. Our choice matters and choosing the right one is our priority. Let our choices be advocacies for a better society. Choose to be a Lasallian Hero.
“H.E.R.O.” – These four letters will remind us of who we are and who we will be. Four letters that will inspire others to do the same, four letters that we will carry the rest of our lives and four letters that we will pass down to the next generation of Lasallian heroes.
The theme embodies four (4) thrusts:
Helping Our Partners
We value the importance of our partners and their contribution to the accomplishment of our mission and vision. We will continue to have a strong student-administration and student-student partnership by maintaining an open dialogue for both parties. We will promote social entrepreneurship for the clubs because we believe that it is through them that we can get active participation from the students.
Empowering the Lasallian Youth
Formation of the students will be given importance. Values will consistently be incorporated in the various activities and program of the organization. We hope to build clubs by providing activities that will give opportunities for personal growth; build lives by our continuous help to our community-based organizations such as Balayan and Bahay Pag-Asa; and build the nation through the involvement of Lasallians in social issues and concerns in our society.
Responsive Student Leadership
We believe that the different heads of the student organization must work together, geared towards a common goal for the whole year. That is why we will be strengthening the involvement of all sectors in the organization. Through this, we will exert our efforts in responding to the needs of time by providing “innoventive” student-centered programs.
Outstanding Student Governance
Student servant leadership is geared towards for the welfare and development of students. That is why the USG will be providing venues for them to explore their talents and skills through the Lasallian Volunteers, as marshals and ambassadors, promoting Lasallian values and formation. The challenge lies in finding and making more Lasallian Heroes that can bring about positive changes in our society.
In all these, we will constantly integrate Lasallian heroism for mutual partnerships with our stakeholders, for an empowered Lasallian youth, for better student participation, and for values-centered programs. Choice matters and every Lasallian must proudly say that, “I am a Lasallian Hero!”
