ABSTRACT
This study explored developing and evaluating graphic-based supplementary reading materials for literature instruction in a state university. With 40 BSED English students and four experts as evaluators, validated checklists and thematic analysis were employed. The preferred literary works included "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love," "Of Studies," "The Scarlet Letter," and "Romeo and Juliet." Notably, students favored nighttime engagement with these materials. Crafted using Canva with night-readable fonts and animations, the materials were lauded for enhancing engagement, comprehensibility, and fidelity to the author's message. Evaluation criteria encompassed content, presentation, audio/music, technical requirements, presentation and organization, accuracy, and up-to-datedness. Students consistently rated the materials as very acceptable while finding instructional quality, navigation/user interface, interactivity, and feedback acceptable. Expert evaluations mirrored positive student feedback, emphasizing the very acceptable nature of presentation, audio/music, accuracy, and up-to-datedness. Moderately acceptable ratings were assigned to navigation/user interface, interactivity, and feedback, with content, instructional quality, technical requirements, and presentation and organization receiving acceptable ratings. Overall, this research contributes valuable insights into the effectiveness of graphic-based supplementary reading materials in literature instruction.
