Thirteen years after beginning their partnership, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) and Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) met again on May 22, 2026, to build on ongoing collaborations and explore new opportunities for students and faculty.
The visit gave both universities a chance to review ongoing collaborations and discuss new opportunities for students and faculty. TMU also recognized USLS as one of its first international partners when the university began expanding its international programs.

Representing USLS were Dr. Ricver Ureta, Dr. Romeo Teruel, Dr. Manuel De La Paz, and Dr. June Carl Seran. They met with TMU officials including ANDO Toshiyuki, Director of Project Promotion; Shinsuke Takagi, Ph.D., Dean of the Department of Applied Chemistry under the Graduate Course of Urban Environmental Sciences; and Katsuhide Yokoyama, Ph.D., Professor of the Environmental Hydraulics Laboratory under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Part of the discussion focused on opening more mobility opportunities for students from other colleges and graduate programs, along with possible faculty exchange and visiting professorships. Mr. Arvee Olvido, Chairperson of the Materials Engineering Department, also presented USLS research on Solid Waste Management and Characterization.

The partnership continues to create opportunities for both faculty and students. Dr. Joval Martinez is currently serving as a visiting professor at TMU until July, while four Materials Engineering students are completing international laboratory exposure at the university. TMU is also set to visit USLS on June 29 to continue discussions and explore future collaborations.
