#PassionWednesday: The Sound of Success

This #PassionWednesday features the star of the stage, Sef Garzon. As the President and member of USLS Musikat and a cultural scholar of the University, performing brings joy and meaning to others. Inspired by a childhood of music, Sef recalls his first performance at the age of five as the beginning of his love for the stage. Today, he finds the motivation to connect with his audience through their smiles as his greatest reward.

From his first performance at the age of five, Sef Garzon has nurtured his passion for singing. Inspired by a childhood of music with parents who are musically inclined, Sef considers performing as a way to connect and bring joy to others. His commitment to his passion reflects a deep love for the stage.

Despite its glories, being a student artist comes with its challenges, but with time management Sef has mastered balancing his academics with his passion for performance. He believes that preparation is the key to success. By immersing himself in music, he can understand the emotional depth of each piece and overcome stage fright. While the audience may not be aware of these jitters, Sef sees them as motivators to keep focus and excel. For him, the smiles and happiness of his audience are his greatest rewards.

Sef gives credit to the University for its significant role in his growth as a performer and as a scholar. Through the affiliations, programs and organizations offered by the University and through Musikat, he was able to have countless opportunities to showcase and develop his talent.

His message to aspiring Lasallian student artists is, “Always be a student of the arts.” Sef’s journey shows that through your passion, it is possible to excel in the classroom and on stage with dedication.

With all the doors that opened for Sef while pursuing his passion, he deeply values the privilege of being able to combine his education as a scholar with his artistic journey. He emphasizes the importance of lifelong learning and being able to find your own voice, being able to collaborate with fellow artists, and believing this mindset coupled with determination and hard work will set individuals parts on stage and in life.
