The University formalized its partnership with Ibaraki University, Japan, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on October 12 at the University Board Room. The agreement marks another milestone in the University’s continuing efforts to expand its international academic network.
Led by University Chancellor Minnie O. Chua, the ceremonial signing established a framework for academic collaboration between the two institutions. The partnership follows the University’s institutional visit to Japan in May 2026, which laid the groundwork for further international engagement.

Representing Ibaraki University were Dr. Seiichiro Hasui, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Masato Noda, also of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The MOU covers potential areas of cooperation, including academic exchange, faculty engagement, student mobility, joint academic and research initiatives, and other areas of mutual interest. Following the signing, the University and Ibaraki University representatives met with members of the College of Arts and Sciences to discuss possible collaborative activities and the next steps toward implementing the agreement.

As the third university in the Philippines to establish a partnership with Ibaraki University, the University opens new avenues for international learning, research collaboration, and faculty and student engagement. The agreement reinforces the University’s commitment to building meaningful global partnerships that broaden academic opportunities and strengthen international cooperation.
