A delegation from the University visited Ibaraki University in Japan on May 20, 2026, to explore opportunities for academic partnership and future collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit focused on areas where both universities could work together, including the Agribusiness Program, research partnerships, and possible Visiting Professorship opportunities. Discussions also covered field exposure opportunities for students and faculty, particularly in biological sciences and the humanities.

Representing USLS were Dr. Ricver Ureta, Dr. Romeo Teruel, Dr. Manuel De La Paz, and Dr. June Carl Seran. They met with Ibaraki University administrators and faculty members led by Prof. Yoko Ikeda and Prof. Dr. Seiji Mori.

Both institutions also discussed possible research initiatives in support of the USLS Biodiversity Center, drawing on the expertise of Ibaraki University faculty members. In addition, the universities expressed interest in expanding academic mobility opportunities beyond the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Program through short-term exchanges, collaborative online learning, and future joint engagements.
Ibaraki University is a national university in Japan located primarily in Mito, with additional campuses in Hitachi and Ami. It is recognized for its research strengths in environmental science, biodiversity, chemistry, engineering, and interdisciplinary studies, making it a strong partner for international academic and research collaborations.

The visit concluded with an open discussion reaffirming the commitment of both universities to strengthen academic cooperation, intercultural learning, and long-term partnerships between the Philippines and Japan.
