The University’s Yu An Log College of Business and Accountancy placed First Runner-Up at the Fifth Annual International Lasallian Societal Impact Case Competition (LSICC) 2026, held on April 10, 2026. The competition brought together participants from 25 Lasallian institutions worldwide and marked USLS’ first time joining the event.

Representing USLS were third-year Accountancy students Paul Bryan Alexis Chua, Sophia Antonnette Jaro, Julliana Renee Ogapong, and Anya Raven Precioso, along with first-year Commerce student Gwen Loraine Encolesio. The team was mentored by Dr. Noreza Causing.

The team tackled the case, “How to Deal with the Ethical Risks of Hiring Algorithms,” by proposing the HUMAN-Centric Ethical Framework for AI Use in Hiring. Their solution focused on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in recruitment, with an emphasis on keeping people at the center of hiring decisions.

After advancing to the top nine finalists, the team presented and defended their proposal live via Zoom.

The achievement reflects the University’s continued effort to give students opportunities to engage in global academic experiences and real-world problem-solving.
