The University’s Yu An Log - College of Business and Accountancy (YAL-CBA) held the annual Lecture Series themed “Fraud, AI-Driven Threats, and Corporate Trust” to strengthen its commitment to ethical business practices and to honor the enduring legacy of Mr. Yu An Log at the La Proa Ballroom, L’Fisher Hotel on March 27.

The session featured three distinguished speakers, Rossana A. Fajardo, Allan W. Ocho, and Florenz G. Tugas, to discuss how governance fosters fraud, how new technologies make people more vulnerable, and what leaders need to do to rebuild business trust, accountability, and resilience.

Rossana A. Fajardo, the Country Managing Partner at SGV and former member of the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI), discussed “Governance, Organizational Leadership, and Fraud Perpetration,” emphasizing the importance of applying governance frameworks in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and driving performance through strong governance practices. “Applying governance principles in daily operations encourages accountability, transparency, and ethical actions, which are critical for long-term success,” Fajardo highlighted.

Meanwhile, Allan W. Ocho, ASEAN Technology Risk Leader and Partner for Assurance at SGV, tackled “AI-Driven Threats and IT Governance Challenges,” explaining how fraud continues to evolve alongside technological advancements and how technology serves as both a risk and a line of defense. “Technology alone cannot secure trust. People do. Leadership does. Culture does,” Ocho emphasized.

On the other hand, Florenz G. Tugas, Vice President of the ASEAN Accounting Education Workgroup, facilitated the panel discussion and open forum. “In a world where AI can fabricate reality and even technology down to the fibers of good governance, the real competitive advantage will belong to those who can protect truth, uphold integrity, and earn trust consistently,” Tugas concluded, highlighting that trust is the currency of every organization.

Since its inaugural session in 2019, the lecture series has rotated across the eight academic programs of the college, delivering timely sessions that align with each department’s expertise and address evolving business challenges.
