Balik Scientist Dr. Khino J. Parohinog Courtesy
Call to Undersecretary Leah J. Buendia

March 3, 2023

Department of Science and Technology

Dr. Khino J. Parohinog is a Nanotechnology expert who earned his MS-PhD in Energy Science and Technology at Myongji University in South Korea.

His research interest lies in the development of different types of nano-adsorbents for targeted critical and precious metal recovery. His research was focused on the surface functionalization of carbon-based nanomaterials as a technique for the fabrication of the adsorbents, wherein crown ethers (CE) were immobilized on magnetic graphene oxide (MGO) to produce high-capacity, highly selective adsorbents.

For this Balik Scientist engagement, Dr. Parohinog is hosted by the University of Mindanao(UM) and University of St. La Salle (USLS) where he helps in enhancing research capabilities of faculty and students in the Chemical Engineering Department. He is expected to provide technical assistance in formulating research plans for the synthesis of nano-adsorbent materials for contaminant removal and resource recovery.
