#PassionWednesday: Ensuring Safety and Security, CISSO’s Commitment to the Lasallian Community
How does the University ensure that every corner of its campus remains a safe and secure space for its community? At the University of St. La Salle, this responsibility rests with the Campus Integrated Safety and Security Office (CISSO). Under the leadership of 1Lt Raymond Nelven R. Ibrado, who returned as CISSO Director in November 2023, the office operates as the university’s front line in regulating campus safety and security. Their primary role is to manage the safe entrance and exit of all Lasallians and maintain a protected environment on campus, ensuring students and staff can focus on learning and growth.
The CISSO draws motivation from both the praise and feedback of the Lasallian community. Every successful resolution of an issue—be it assisting a student who misplaced their belongings or addressing theft or emergencies—is a reward in itself. The team remains steadfast in their mission of fostering a safe campus, driven by their commitment to ensure Lasallians thrive in an environment free from unnecessary disruptions.
Challenges abound in their line of work, ranging from managing lost and found items to responding to emergencies like theft and accidents. Yet, the CISSO overcomes these hurdles with dedication, collaborating with offices like Balayan to repurpose unclaimed items and swiftly addressing incidents.
Innovations, such as the addition of a dedicated CCTV operator and plans to upgrade surveillance systems with facial recognition technology, showcase their commitment to staying ahead in campus security. Looking to the future, the office aims to implement ID cards with embedded codes for enhanced monitoring of campus access, reflecting their drive to align safety measures with the evolving needs of the Lasallian community. Through their efforts, CISSO exemplifies a steadfast dedication to safeguarding the institution while embracing continuous improvement.
To keep up with modern security needs, the CISSO continuously upgrades its facilities and services. Recent improvements include adding a CCTV operator to monitor the campus and proposing an upgraded surveillance system with facial recognition technology. Future plans include embedding codes in ID cards for enhanced monitoring of campus access, reflecting the office’s dedication to evolving with the times while maintaining its core mission.
The CISSO’s work shows the importance of a secure foundation for academic excellence. Their initiatives and proactive problem-solving ensure that the University remains not only a place of learning but a safe haven for its community. With the CISSO at the helm of campus safety, the University continues to reflect its values of care, community, and security.
