#PassionWednesday: Motivated by Empowering and Inspiring Young Minds
When life called Ms. Mary Jade Jakosalem, known as “Miss Jade” by her fellow Lasallians, to the teaching profession right after graduation, she embraced the teaching journey ahead with a passionate mind and heart, driven by her mission to inspire and empower students. Whenever she pushes her students to do their best, she is motivated by how they thrive and manifest their best efforts and improvements despite the numerous challenges they faced. Her outgoing personality brings light and joy to the classroom, the lives of her students, and those around her.
Currently serving as a professor at the College of Engineering and Computing Studies under the Computer Science Department, Miss Jade became a Licensed Professional Teacher in 2023. In addition to her teaching role, she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, having previously completed her Master’s in Business Administration.
Miss Jade has made significant contributions to student development, mentoring two successful Computer Science startup teams, Team Seraphim and Team SeerAI, which recently excelled in the DICT Regional Pitching Competition for Western Visayas. Team Seraphim secured the Regional Champion title, while Team SeerAI earned second place along with several special awards.
Her teaching career began in 2016 after graduating summa cum laude in BS Information Technology - Major in Web and Mobile Development. Initially a part-time instructor at Liceo de La Salle Senior High School, she taught Empowerment Technologies and research-focused subjects like Practical Research and Capstone Projects. Her passion for research has been a core aspect of her teaching journey, inspiring her students to excel in this field.
Despite initially considering a career in Biology, Miss Jade found her true calling in education, guided by the University’s nurturing environment. Her outgoing personality and commitment to her students’ success have left a lasting impact, as she continues to inspire the next generation of learners.
