USLS hosts Manila Symphony Orchestra Workshop & Outreach Concert

To celebrate culture and the arts, particularly music and orchestra, the University alongside the Manila Symphony Orchestra hosted a workshop and outreach titled “Road to 100: Symphonic Explorations,” last Sept. 18, as part of a series of fundraising events initiated by the Office of the President.

The event started with their Symphonic Explorations workshop that welcomed musicians of all skill levels during the day. Following the workshop, a concert was held in the evening at the St. La Salle Coliseum that was graced by the whole Lasallian community.

“Why don’t we celebrate culture and the arts?”, Brother President Joaquin Severino Martinez FSC, D. Min, questioned during his remarks. “Everything that makes life a little bit slower, allows us to become more human.” he added, highlighting the importance of culture and the arts.

Followed by the Brother President’s remarks, the Manila Symphony Orchestra expressed their intent and interest in exploring around the country. For them, they aim to perform around the nation while collaborating and performing with the local musicians in the isles that they venture to; a goal of theirs as they approach a century of performing.

The Orchestra performed a variety of symphonies, introducing their stead in the Coliseum performing an overture of Mozart’s Magic Flute. In a harmonious display in the mastery of music, they played a variety of pieces ranging from classics in the likes of Mozart, Bizet, to video game scores and movements and symphonies to highlight each section of the orchestra. To close the concert they played their final piece for the concert, an overture of Filipino Folk and Local music where they brought Negrense musicians who previously attended the workshop to perform, giving a spotlight to local musicians in the province.
