USLS to shift to temporary four-day work, school week starting March 23

Center for Marketing and Communications 17 Mar, 2026

The University of St. La Salle will temporarily shift to a four-day work and school week starting March 23, 2026, in response to anticipated fuel price increases arising from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The measure, discussed and endorsed by the Operations Council, was approved by Brother President, as stated in a March 13 memorandum from Chancellor Minnie O. Chua addressed to the Lasallian community.

The temporary schedule aims to support the University community, maintain essential services, and promote responsible use of institutional resources.

Furthermore, under the temporary schedule, staff will work a four-day week from Monday to Thursday, either with extended hours or with the option to work from home on Fridays.

The campus will be closed on Fridays, with classes for the Basic and Higher Education Units (CAS and CED) held online. Other colleges will also hold some classes online on different days.

The University is also implementing energy-saving measures, including turning off air conditioners and lights when not in use, keeping classroom doors closed, and promoting minimized use of school vehicles and carpooling.

All previously scheduled events, including sports activities, recollections, and concerts, will proceed as planned. These measures will remain in effect until the end of April 2026, with schedules reverting earlier if conditions stabilize, the memo added.

The University calls on the Lasallian community to cooperate and use resources prudently during this period.
