The La Salle Stingers set their eyes on the prize as the Philippine University Games (UniGames) Season 26 returns to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental from October 24 to 30.
In its highly anticipated comeback, the University of St. La Salle is fielding 123 athletes and 14 coaches to compete in 15 sports disciplines as it joins 40 universities and colleges from across the country in this sporting event.
The USLS delegation will see action in Athletics (Men & Women), Badminton (Men & Women), Basketball (3x3 & 5x5), Beach Volleyball (Men & Women), Football, Futsal (Men), Table Tennis (Men & Women), Taekwondo (Men & Women), and Volleyball (Men & Women).
“Our teams are gearing up for more podium finishes this year, as we’ve registered in nearly all sports disciplines. We hope to bring back the Lasallian UniGames glory,” said Carmela Arcolas-Gamboa, Director of the Institutional Varsity Sports Office.
Hosted by the Negros Occidental Provincial Government, with the Bacolod City Government as co-host, this year’s UniGames records a 25 percent increase in participating schools compared to its last staging, according to UniGames Secretariat Head Malot Lozada.
First staged in 1996 at the USLS, the UniGames was founded by Br. Rolando Dizon, FSC, and volleyball coach Roger Banzuela to promote sportsmanship, camaraderie, and excellence among Philippine universities.
Through the years, it has become a platform for student-athletes who have gone on to represent the country in the Olympics, Asian Games, and Southeast Asian Games.
As the UniGames returns to Bacolod, the University encourages the Lasallian community to support the La Salle Stingers as they carry the Animo spirit in their pursuit of excellence, unity, and sportsmanship at UniGames Season 26.
