The long-envisioned Iloilo Campus of the University of St. La Salle is beginning to take shape with the groundbreaking and time capsule-laying ceremony held on May 15 in Pavia, coinciding with the celebration of Lasallian Founder’s Day, a fitting occasion to mark a new chapter in the University's continuing mission.
Well attended by the USLS administration led by University President Br. Joaquin Severino Martinez FSC and Chancellor Minnie Chua, the meaningful milestone also welcomed the presence of close partners from Profriends (Property Company of Friends, Inc.).
A steadfast Lasallian partner in nurturing communities, Profriends is a real estate developer dedicated to creating family-friendly, sustainable neighborhoods that reflect shared values of service and development.
“What we are able to do today is take a step—or even two—forward, and everything else follows. Every time we move ahead, we understand that we are making the future real, and that Lasallian education is becoming real,” the Brother President said.
In his welcome remarks, Martinez also underscored the vital role of partners, including the local government unit of Pavia and its people, in advancing the Lasallian mission in Panay.
Meanwhile, Maplecrest Chairman Guillermo “Gerry” Choa, in his message, highlighted the collaborative partnership with USLS and the vision of ProFriends and the Maplecrest Group in helping shape progressive communities in Panay and beyond.
“The presence of La Salle in Panay is very instrumental. We cannot grow Panay without people and talents. When we have the right culture, training, and institutions, we can achieve greater growth,” Choa said.
The blessing of the grounds and the time capsule was officiated by Msgr. Ely Rafael D. Fuentes.
This was followed by the ceremonial breaking of the ground and the lowering and covering of the time capsule, led by key representatives from USLS, Maplecrest Group, Freyfil Corporation, BN Project Technik, and The Sage Group.
Held on a significant day in the Lasallian calendar, the ceremony marks a milestone for USLS as it extends its legacy of transformative education and service into the Panay region.
