Project AFLOATS, the flood alert system developed by Computer Engineering students ranks 1st Runner-Up in the pitching competition at the Handa Pilipinas sa Bagong Pilipinas 2025 held on October 27 to 29 at SMX Convention Center Bacolod.
The student representatives were 3rd year student Andrei Alexis Argel and 4th year student Daniel Jess Reynoso from the College of Engineering who developed Project AFLOATS under the mentorship of Dr. Rommel Gallegos.

Project AFLOATS or Advanced Flood Location and Alert Tracker System provides real-time flood monitoring and alerts to help commuters, communities, and disaster responders navigate and prepare for flooding, addressing critical needs in geographically isolated and vulnerable areas.
The Visayas leg of Handa Pilipinas sa Bagong Pilipinas 2025 was organized by the Department of Science and Technology, DOST, to highlight innovations in Science, Technology, and Innovation, STI, under the theme “Innovations in Climate and Disaster Resilience.”
The nationwide exposition brought together key stakeholders, innovators, and local leaders to present science and technology-based solutions for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, particularly in the Visayas, which faces extreme weather, earthquakes, and rising sea levels.
The University congratulates the student representatives and the College of Engineering for this outstanding achievement in science and innovation.
