Forensic Linguistics: Seminar-workshop

First in Negros Occidental, First in Western Visayas

 

In celebration of the University of St. La Salle’s College of Arts and Sciences 60th Founding Anniversary, the Languages Department will host the first seminar-workshop in Negros Occidental and Western Visayas on Forensic Linguistics with the theme, “Forensic Linguistics: Its Nature, Contexts and Issues,” on October 11, 2019, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM at Mutien-Marie (MM) Auditorium A, University of St. La Salle, Bacolod City.

The seminar-workshop will be conducted by Dr. Marilu R. Madrunio, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Santo Tomas, Manila and a pioneer in forensic linguistics research in the country. This workshop aims to provide an avenue for linguists, language teachers, legal practitioners, court interpreters, police officers, psychologists, and those in allied disciplines in exploring the nature, contexts, and issues confronting the legal system in the country today; engage in a wide range of critical perspectives, an interdisciplinary dialogue through plenary discussions on the nature of legal language and the application of linguistic knowledge methods and insights to the forensic setting; update participants with the recent issues and developments in the field of language and law; and give them opportunity to interact directly with the pioneer in forensic linguistics research in the country.
