Passions beyond pageantry ft. Miss Masskara 2023 Contestants

Although Yvonne Catamco from BS Tourism Management may have emerged as the shining star, claiming the coveted title, it is now the perfect moment to illuminate the lives of her fellow Lasallian finalists– individuals who, in their own unique ways, epitomize the embodiment of "Super People," showcasing a multitude of talents, dreams, and unwavering passion that have been previously concealed beneath the spotlight of pageantry.

Pageantry and modeling often take center stage when we think of beauty queens, but what lies beyond the dazzling gowns and radiant smiles? In the quest for the crown at Miss Masskara Bacolod 2023, three other candidates from the University share their life stories, passions, and inspirations that go far beyond the runway.

Georgette Ysabelle C. Millan: Balancing a Whirlwind Life

Georgette Ysabelle C. Millan, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student, is not your typical beauty queen. Juggling her studies, work, extracurricular activities, and community leadership roles, her life is a whirlwind of responsibilities. "Balancing academics, student organizations, and work has never been easy," she says, "But I've always aimed for excellence in all that I do."

Georgette's motivation to join Miss Masskara Bacolod 2023 stems from her desire to break free from societal pressures and show the world who Georgette really is—an individual passionate about serving the community and creating platforms to speak for the people, by the people.

Aside from her pageantry pursuits, Georgette finds solace in thrifting and sewing, a hobby that simultaneously allows her to be creative and sustainable. Her roles as a working student, student leader, and Barangay leader keep her busy but fulfilled, each teaching her something new and bringing her closer to making a positive impact on her community.

To the youth who wish to follow in her footsteps, Georgette imparts the wisdom of "Aspire, Explore, and Inspire." She encourages them to dream big, step out of their comfort zones, and embrace every step of their journey with passion and purpose.

Marianel Tan: Conquering Self-Doubt and Embracing Versatility

For Marianel Tan, a second-year Communications student, the encouragement of friends and family was the driving force behind her Miss Masskara Bacolod 2023 journey. Her decision to participate also aimed to conquer self-doubt and showcase her capabilities.

Marianel aspires to advocate for women's health and raise awareness about PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Her life outside pageantry is a kaleidoscope of passions, from traveling and adrenaline-pumping activities to creativity through sketching, writing, and painting. She enjoys indulging in coffee and food with friends, dabbling in performance and directing, and working various jobs, including modeling and being a virtual program assistant.

Marianel's advice to aspiring youth is never to doubt themselves and to keep learning and equipping themselves with knowledge and skills. She emphasizes the importance of staying true to one's self and embracing authenticity to find true happiness.

Jada Biaxyl Celeste: A Journey of Self-Discovery and Advocacy

Jada Biaxyl Celeste, a BS in Business Administration student, initially joined Miss Masskara Bacolod for the experience. However, her journey took her on a path of self-discovery, sisterhood, and a deeper sense of purpose. Her advocacy revolves around youth empowerment through strengthening mental health.

Jada's life outside of pageantry involves a passion for sports, particularly volleyball, as well as a newfound interest in flowers and monologues. She's also on her way to becoming a brand endorser. Jada's message to the youth is a powerful reminder to follow one's heart and not be swayed by the opinions of others.

These inspiring young women have embraced pageantry as a way to not only showcase their beauty and grace but also empower themselves and advocate for causes close to their hearts. Their lives are a testament to the power of pursuing one's passion, embracing authenticity, and staying true to oneself, no matter the challenges faced.
